Mulesing alternatives: Road to 2010
Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) Media Release
16 March 2007
Merino woolgrowers can find out more details about the progress in developing alternatives to conventional mulesing to meet the 2010 phase-out date at meetings to be held around the state next week.
Chairman of the Operations Group of the Australian Wool and Sheep Industry Taskforce, Robert Pietsch, will chair the meetings. Mr Pietsch is also Chair of the National Mulesing Accreditation Program and President of Woolproducers Australia.
The meetings will be introduced by the Chair of the NSW Farmers’ Association Wool Committee, Don Hamblin.
Also in attendance will be Jules Dorrian, AWI Project Manager of Blowfly Control and David Coombes, a member of the Secretariat of the Australian Wool and Sheep Industry Taskforce.
The meetings will have a ‘question and answer’ format to enable woolgrowers to ask all the questions they have about alternatives to mulesing and issues surrounding the phase-out by 2010.
“The deadline of 2010 is looming and I urge all woolgrowers to avail themselves of this excellent opportunity for an informal discussion about progress with the development of the mulesing clips, the intradermal injection, the National Mulesing Accreditation Program and other activity surrounding the mulesing phase-out.” Mr Pietsch said.
