AWI collaborates on range of high-tech seamless garments

27 November 2007

Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) announces the launch of a new range of seamless Merino sport and body garments.

The high tech range to be released through a number of US stores from November 2007 is the result of collaboration between AWI and one of Europe’s most prominent makers of seamless apparel products.

Memteks supplies quality, innovative seamless intimate apparel, active wear, swim wear, maternity wear and yoga wear; and is regarded as one of the leading research and development groups in the seamless industry.

Based in Turkey with US operations, Memteks developed the range of seamless Merino wool bodywear products using the latest computerised seamless knitting machines and computer assisted design (CAD) systems.

Sports apparel has been revolutionised by the introduction of seamless garments which provide ultimate comfort while dramatically reducing production costs. With regular garment manufacture a garment needs to be cut out and assembled. However, new machines are now creating garments from a single line of thread, in one continuous piece.

When seamless and new garment bonding technology is applied to Australian Merino wool the result is a cutting-edge product that combines seamless comfort with wool’s natural peak-performance qualities that greatly improve comfort as the body moves, resulting in a better fit and making them ideal for active and outdoor wear.

The seamless body wear market growing at an annual rate of 10% and Merino is steadily growing within this market as brand and consumer knowledge and awareness increases.
Memteks' state-of-the art manufacturing equipment, the range of seamless garments are machine washable, high performance and durable.
