Information for retailers
Marketing garments containing wool from non-mulesed sheep
A swing tag has been developed for use by retailers and garment manufacturers who wish to inform consumers that their particular product has been manufactured from wool sourced from non-mulesed sheep.
Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), the industry’s research, development, marketing and innovation company, has developed the tag as part of the wool and sheep industry’s progression towards the phase out of surgical mulesing by 31 December 2010.
Retailers and garment manufacturers are free to use this swing tag to promote garments that do not contain wool from mulesed sheep.
AWI provides this swing tag image free of charge and in good faith to any retailer or manufacturer that can verify that the wool contained in the garment that displays the swing tag is sourced from non-mulesed sheep.
It is important to note that AWI does not check, test or verify any bales of wool to determine whether the wool is from non-mulesed sheep.
Retailers must use their own endeavours to ensure that when they place this swing tag on a garment they are providing accurate information to the customer.
